Outreach Program and Services

The Robinson Lunar Observatory provides various types of services to schools, scout groups, civic groups and similar organizations. For more information on any of these outreach programs, call (913)-422-1280

PRESENTATIONS: Talks and slide shows, can be given to your group on a reservation basis. The observatory has produced numerous slide shows on various topics relating to the moon. In addition to the presentation, if the moon is visuible, telescopes will be made available for lunar observing. Most generally, all presentations will be given in the evening. Daytime events are only given in those rare circumstances when no other time is available. Although there is no charge for these presentations, donations are welcomed to help in the continuation of the program.

MENTOR PROGRAM: Over the years, the observatory has provided support for seniors at Bonner Springs High School, for their "senior project". This project is required of all seniors at BSHS as a graduation requirement. Several other schools within the region have similar programs. For any senior, considering a project that is astronomical in nature, the observatory will provide support in the way of reference material, guidance, and final critiquing of the project before completion. There is no charge for this service. A project completed for the 2000-2001 school year can be viewed here.

VIEW THE MOON: The observatory will occasionally have telescopes set up at various locations within the area for public viewing. This may be areas such as city parks, county parks, shopping centers, or other highly visible public areas. A listing of our monthly location will be posted below so that arrangements can be made to attend. There is no charge to attend these public functions, although donations are welcomed to help in the continuation of the program. You can view a slide show from one of these public nights here.
